The Point Boardwalk (56k beware!)

Hi all.

Had a morning drive down to The Point earlier and took a few photos of the boardwalk for you all to see.

The slightly overgrown path leading to the boardwalk:

The boardwalk has two platforms with public information boards, this is the one nearest the riverbank:

THE OLD BEACON IS THE LOWER CUT LIGHT,THERE WAS A UPPER CUT LIGHT ALSO AT THE START OF BOARD WALK THE RAILINGS ARE STILL THERE.THESE WHERE USED AS LEADING LIGHTS FOR SHIPS COMING TO LYNN.NO LONGER USED BUT LIGHT IS STILL LIT AS A MARK

Just back from a cycle ride to The Point and i see that the boardwalk is gone.

A path used to lead from here to the boardwalk, you can see the path is now well overgrown:


And all that remains of the boardwalk is an outline of dried grass:


A quick google returns nothing to explain when and why it was removed, anyone got any idea?

I thought you couldn't go past the Fishing Fleet after Porvair moved there. Didn't they put a gate /barrier across ? We used to spend the summer evenings sitting down there watching the boats come home, Grandad Jude amongst them.

They were made to open it up many years ago desira.

I think you'll have to ask Natural England (the successor to English Nature shown on the boards in the first post) if you want to find out why it's gone but a common reason is that some landowner wanted more money to keep looking after the land and providing open access. We've lost a lot of "permissive paths" for that reason in recent years, such as the ones south of Church Lane bridleway in East Winch.
