I wonder if the Auditor signed the account off and it was approved at the next AGM???

It will be very difficult for youngsters to make sense of our money in a few years' time won't it? We do it quite easily as we know off the top of our heads that 12d = 1s and 4 X 2/6d = 10/- but how difficult for those that don't know that 2/3d isn't two thirds of a penny etc and the mathmatics!

I went to a primary school a few years ago and gave a local history talk with lots of old bits and pieces, including some proper money! At coffee break, a teacher came up to me and said "Do you mind explaining the old money to me please?" Did I feel old!

It is like a foreign language to them!!!

It's funny how things come back to you from your childhood, I can remember my Grandmother refering to the Tuesday Mkt Place as the "Hill", any idears why ??

There is a thread on about the "Hill" and why it was so named. I think one of the
explanations given was that a lot of markets grew up around the walls of castles
that were built on hills, hence going up the hill to the market. If you google
market hill there are quite a lot of them.

Found this coloured picture of Tuesday Mkt Place I'm guessing early 50's but maybe I'm wrong. I don't think I've seen a picture of TMP from this time in colour...

Nice one spaceman!!! I reccon that first stall left hand side with all the crowd round
it was "Micks" he always had the biggest crowd. What was his real name? anyone know?

I find that the Tuesday Market is a bit poor these days. Nothing like it was in the 70's. It used to fill most of the Market Place in those days I seem to remember.

I wonder why it has gone downhill that much?

Pound shops and the like. People went to the market to get a bargain, you can
walk down any street in the country now and find el cheapo.
