Today is the last day of Lupercalia which was a popular Roman sex feast and love lottery (which Christians attampted to over-write by introducing Valentine's Day a day before ). Revellers whip each other to frenzy and fertility with februa thongs, from which the name of February is derived.

Today is Swallow Day. It is said that the Chimney Swallow arrives back in England (as do nightingales, house and sand martens) heralding the return of summer.
Time reckoning by bird migration is an ancient and surprisingly accurate custom since birds navigate not only by the sun's position but also by celestial motion.

On 6th May, Anne wrote to Henry from the Tower, pleading her innocence:
"Your grace's displeasure and my imprisonment are things so strange unto me, that what to write, or what to excuse, I am altogether ignorant. Let not your grace ever imagine that your poor wife will ever be brought to acknowledge a fault, where not so much as thought thereof proceeded. And to speak a truth, never prince had wife more loyal in all duty, and in all true affection, than you have found in Anne Bulen ..... My last and only request shall be, that myself may only bear the burden of your grace's displeasure, and that it may not touch the innocent souls of those poor gentlemen, who, as I understand, are likewise in strait imprisonment for my sake."

Many years ago I visited the London Dungeon. There was a Hologram of Anne Boleyn saying the same words I think.
Pity the date in my post was incorrect
