Timber Market Wisbech

Postby radstockjeff » 21 Jan 2013, 14:11

Has anyone any old pictures/photos of the area around Timber Market Wisbech, pre 1900. Why was that area called Timber Market? (or is that too obvious)?

Thanks

I have not pictures (yet) of that area but this is what history on line says
about the market. Yes there were three and one was just for timber.

A third market, for timber, was at the south-east end of the town. The site, close to the Well Stream, was convenient for unloading heavy goods, and the narrow blocks of buildings between the canal, Norfolk Street, (fn. 27) and West Street represent the sites of the stalls and booths of this market.
I do not want thanks for any research I am able to help out with. I just love doing it.
