My Grandfather

Pictures of my grandfather (Arthur Green) in South Africa 1882 during the Boer War. fourth row down, 5th from the left.

Again at the age of fifty in 1918 first row with the ginger tom, he was an R.S.M.

I can remember my mother telling me that he even tried to get into the second world war but of course he was far too old by then. He died in 1953 at the age of 90 and is buried in Hardwick Rd Cemetery.

Great pictures and history Rocker. How old would he have been when he enlisted then.?
Secondly did he at that young age do any fighting?
I do not want thanks for any research I am able to help out with. I just love doing it.

My Aunt who herself is nearing 90, seems to think he lied about his age to get in, she says he was probably15 or 16. As for the other question, she dos'nt really know but I know my Mother was born in Dorset in 1917 and my aunt a couple of years later. He married my grandmother who was from Necton and I know he met her when he was up this way training at a camp near Swaffham so it looks as if he may have been in 1914- 18 in some sort of training position.. I shall later be contacting the army for more info.
