The british high command surrendered to the Japanese forces in singapore
in these bunkers. Many men from this area that were in the Royal Norfolk Reg
were imprisoned by the japanese and made to work on the death railway.

Singapore

Postby teddybear1959 » 07 Feb 2008, 20:45

My Great Uncle fell at Singapore in February 1942, his name is on the Kranji Memorial. I often wonder if he was perhaps one of the lucky ones, to have died before the Prisoner of War Camps.

Thanks EWW

If I had realised you were going, I would have got you to get a picture of his bit of the memorial!

Never mind.

The photographs are lovely.

No, I hadn't seen that one and he isn't on there! I need to look into that because I was told by the CWGC that he was on Col 49 of the memorial. Thanks for that anyway EWW, here is the man himself.

Watching Michael Portillo in Singapore tonight bought back some nice memories for us of our short time there. Ange liked the gardens the best.
Changi prison was a very sad place though when you think how our prisoners were treat there.
