Old sofa, old door, couple of pallets, bags of carrier bags, some engine oil/screenwash and other bits and pieces,

So I rung the council, they will take the sofa for £16, but nothing else! I can`t get it down the skip without a car, thought of hiring a van but then remembered before they called me "commercial" because i was in a van. Next stop Bawsey? nah, cant do that coz I hate seeing it there.. Sorely tempted though....instead of me paying to get rid of it, the council do. Bit ironic really.......

£70 for a hippobag then? :-(

Coincidentally, I went to the tip today, with bike panniers full of all the stuff that can be recycled but they don't collect at the kerb, like cartons and so on. Got there just after 4. Still full daylight. Closed. Closes at 4 until the clocks change. WHAT KIND OF DOMESTIC TIP ONLY OPENS DURING WORKING HOURS? I work flexi, but most don't, so I guess they can't recycle as much even if they want to. Great way to keep recycling numbers down and prop the case for incineration up, isn't it? It's time to kick the Conservatives county council out this May!

The members of this forum voted years ago that this would be a NO POLITICS forum.
We all have our views and party allegiances, but forums very quickly degenerate into
free for all and slanging match, we do not want it to happen to this one again as it did
before the members voted.

OK. I wasn't around much 2006-2011 so I didn't know that. Maybe it should go in the FAQ or a sticky post, because others won't know.

Rubbish collection is a council service for most households, so politics are rather hard to avoid. And the early-1990s-style rubbish service around Lynn is predominantly due to the county council. Even the Conservative-run borough council (which does the actual collections) is improving from April, but they're rather constrained by the county services too - to the point where they signed a recycling contract with someone other than the county council http://www.letsrecycle.com/news/latest- ... ling-plant to try to reduce their reliance on their own party.

I'm not campaigning for people to elect any particular other party, but anyone other than the current county council administration is likely to move rubbish forwards, aren't they?
