Hi Tg
is it possible to show Cambrian Terrace with the surrounding area on this map to get an understanding of it's position in the Friars?
Thanks
Nuggets.

EWW wrote:Thank you Ms Marple. You are a real treasure. Our much lamented member Roger Carter (Wilgress) lived opposite and he told me years ago
that it was on the Friars but I have searched map after map hand never found it. Now all I have to do is find my dads eldest brothers service
record to find where he was in France. I know not his Regiment or number. Three of the brothers were there at the same time.

Herbert George Deacon Wright ( your Dads brother) Pioneer in the Royal Engineers service number 172478. Awarded the British War Medal and the Victory Medal. There is a bit more info on the Forces war records site, unfortunately I don't have full access to that. Maybe KTL or someone else could find it. Highly likely that he and the other brother were also at Arras. T

This is an extract from the History of the Norfolk Royal Engineers. My uncle Richard was in the 34th. No wonder he did not want to talk about it.

La Boiselle did not fall that day and in total the 34th Division lost 6,591 men killed or wounded or missing between the 1st and 3rd July, including 8 senior officers.

There is a great book out by Steve Smith called The Norfolk Regiment on the Western Front 1914-1918. I have one on order. He has a great
twitter account @stevesmith1944 He gave me lots of good info on my dad and uncle. The Norfolk Royal Engineers was made up of mainly
Norfolk men and was known as one of the Pals battalions. He has some wonderful pictures on his site and it is well worth a look.

After reading some of Steve's stuff I still cannot get the saying Lions led by Donkeys out of my mind.
