I can remember one not all that cold winter night, although there was a light sprinkling of snow on the ground being on a standby call with Dudley. His words were..."Never mind what we're here to accomplish our top priority must be to preserve body heat". I think a cry went up of "Listen to Scott of the Antarctic". Good old Dudley always caring.. :)

I can also remember being on standby one night with Dudley at Brow of the Hill Leziate.
It took us all night to erect a new pole that had been hit by a tractor, snapped off the
pole, downed all the point one copper, and pulled all the services down. We, Ted Bell
and myself spent all night putting it back together, and as Dud was calling control to
say all supplies had been restored, a land rover came round the corner and took the
whole lot down again. And as god is my witness Dud got down on his hands and knees
and banged his head several times on the pavement crying why me, why me. I did not
care as it was a Sunday :D
