The Ethel Tipple school, for pupils with moderate learning difficulties, opened in 1970 and has, it is thought, seen around 2,500 pupils to date.
It is closing at the same time as the Alderman Jackson School in Marsh Lane, Gaywood, for children with severe learning difficulties.
Pupils who would have gone to either in future will now come to the new Churchill Park School - one of the Government's first complex-needs school and the first being built of its kind in Norfolk.
Chairman of the governors at Ethel Tipple Mrs Vanessa Blythe said it had been a day of mixed emotion. Some building work for the new school had already taken place at the Ethel Tipple site, she said, though, from September, the new school would still be split over the former two sites.
It was hoped all work would be finished by the following September.

New special school opened Sept 2009 replaced The Ethel Tipple and Alderman Jackson schools. It will cater for children with a range of needs including Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Specific Learning Difficulties(SpLD) and Profound & Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD).
I may be lost but I'm making good time.

Thank you for the compliment EWW, I didn't work on the site but I live quite near the school and my wife has been a classroom assistant at the school for the past 18 years. I would like to have taken some photos of the old school in its entirety but I didn't think to take pictures until the demolition had started.

Its nice to have these pictures and stories of the town schools as people
who either went to them or had relatives at them Google the names and
find this site and become members. new members mean new stories and
hopefully new (old) pictures for us to enjoy.
