I think fairstead was started about 1965 tiggs, so pics before that would have been
of the first and second nutwoods, as us old Gaywood boys knew that erea as, with
what was known as the cow walk, thro the middle of it :D
I do not want thanks for any research I am able to help out with. I just love doing it.

I think the agreement was signed in 1962 with the GLC to take overspill as it
was known as and it all took off a couple of years after. Will see if I can find
any pics of the building work for you.

I don't know if it was the back of the Fairstead that I remember being built soon after the bypass was put through? We used to go along the new road and I remember seeing a rubbish tip there and they were building in the distance. The rubbish dump is now another estate I think isn't it?

Talking of the bypass, at the Hunstanton end, I remember that we used to go to the coast and look to our right and Dad used to say that that was going to be where the new road would join up to the old road. It was at the back of Wootton, not far from Castle Rising turning I seem to think. I can still see where the old road joined the new road now when I go by.

Gosh, memories are flooding back tonight! My aunt & uncle used to live at 46 Columbia Way and if we were there at night, there used to be lots of lights over where the Hospital is now, it must have been something to do with the by-pass being built too.

Teddy.

That old bit of road leads to the infamous onion corner Ted, scene of many many accidents
over the years. I sometimes park at the pub and walk along the old road, and the smell of
onions is still there in the growing season (wild Garlic really) Memories

That row of trees at the bottom is what's left of the lane we called The Cow Walk. :)

Used to live in Hall view Road and the nut wood was our playground but if you wanted a real adventure we went across the field to the second Nutwood braving the wrath of the farm foreman ,I think his name was Mac norton, it used to be a clip of the ear and sent back to the first wood if you were caught.
Ah the good old days!!!

It is old McNaughts grandson Mark that is in the EEB football team picture.
Marks father was farm manager after old Mac. As spaceman says its the
old cow-walk. The other bit of the walk you can see that came out in the
yard behind the farm house on Gayton road can be seen at the rear of the
graveyard.

We moved to hall view in 51 at number 5 ,I was the only one up the road who went to the grammar school, and did i suffer for it.
but mostly they were good times .
going up to st helena,or as we called it santalena was quite an adventure or later swimming in the blue waters.
I walked through whats left of the woods ,not a kid to be seen just rubbish dumped everywhere
Too many memories to put down here I fear!!!
