I don't know the year of this picture from a postcard I have. The shadow I assume must have been caused by something lying across the image at some point

I love that picture as I always wonder who "Gert & Daisy" are walking arm-in-arm up the street. They are not really properly dressed as they don't have jackets on, but they have their hats on.

I would think the picture is around the 1910-15 date, skirts just above the ankle, but still looking Edwardian. I'm sure someone on here will have a copy that has been posted and we will be able to date it more accurately.

Any idea of the addresses of these shops? My GGrandparents lived (and I believe ran a clothiers shop) at #22 High Street (1881) and #6 High Street (1871).

Just wondering,

21 & 22 were roughly opposite Baker Lane. Where Tesco's used to be, (I think it is a cheap shop now?).

Tesco's High st was one of the jobs I was crane driver on. Part of it was the old Smiths
newsagents place, it was a loverly old shop. Cannot remember what the other shop
taken in also was. Wilkinsons that now occupy the site are moving to the old
Woolworths Shop in the Vancouver centre.

48-49 High street. David Goddard is giving me some pictures of the old shop
and a write up of the business for its centenary when he can lay his hands
on them.

A few more of High Street. I think most of these shops are no longer there.

Another nice old picture of a grand old shop. The sales assistance were not even allowed to call each other by their first name in those days.
And the supervisores were treat like gods. :)
