Postby thaberland » 21 Dec 2006, 22:46

WHOW THAT BRINGS THE OLD DAYS A GANG OF US KIDS USE TO GO WATCH THE MEN SHOVELING THE COAL INTO THE BIG BARRELS OF FIRE,
MOST WOULD LET US WATCH SOMTIMES WE WOULD GET RUN OFF IT WAS RIGHT BY THE SOUTHGATES I THINK, THEN WE WOULD GO TO THE GAS STATION ACROSS THE ROAD AND PLAY IN THE STACKS OF OLD TYERS, WE WERE NEVER HOME ALWAYS UP TO SOMTHING.

You can still see the gas holders and in the background the old muck works
site that was taken over by Dalgettys. Roundabout is slightly different today
though.

Hi Ev
Never found those photos on here before. Redfers [ Redvers ]Bunting was my grandfathers brother but I didn't or can't remember him but he is very much like his sister Lil who I did know. Must get the son to do me a copy.

P.S
Just received birth cert. for Bertha Elizabeth Rye b27.10.1894 @ 19, Church St. can't find a chr. for her and there is no record for a Benjamin though.

About 12 years ago the question was asked, is there a picture of the Gasometers at the Southgates.
EWW supplied one, here is another, but you have to look very carefully at the right hand side.

Great shots Appso. Yes the builders took it over when the Muckworks finished. Couple of the boss's lived when first built and then it became offices space.
