Now it fits as you discribe. The pic had been taken off of the wrong side of the negative.
You can see how the confusion comes in when this happens.

Sorry to throw a spanner in the works but.................. the picture posted on the 4 August 2009 by The Beltane is the correct way around. The photographer was standing beside the Custom House, looking up Purfleet Street, with King Street to his left and Purfleet Bridge to his right.

The ladder is in Purfleet Street and the bikes are standing on Purfleet Place/Purfleet Bridge opposite the Custom House.

The picture posted on 5th August 2009 is backwards.

If you look at the picture posted on 25th July 2009, showing the building while it was used by Potters, you will see the two dormer windows, first floor widow and chimney that appear in the other picture. The funny little shed type roof at the top right-hand corner is one of the Queen Street buildings.

This one shows where the Custom House Inn was, on the right hand side of Purfleet Street, opposite the Custom House.

This one shows a bit more of the building from the other side of the Purfleet.

Oh, just when I thought I had it.

It is so confusing this one.

Are we agreeing that the two doorways are in Purfleet Street then?

Lol, sorry but no!
   You can just see the tops of the two doorways over the parapet of the bridge. The doors are on the Purfleet Bridge/King Street.

Hi Teddy
Gottcha.....ta.
It is a bit confusing as a couple of pubs stood on or near Purfleet Bridge/King Street
and had a similar look to them. Style of the time I guess. King William, London Tavern
Customs House Inn etc.

100% correct Ted, I have been looking at the pictures of the London
tavern, and not the Custom hse Inn. I think I have another pic
somewhere of the Custom Hse Inn, will have to search it out.

Sorry but I can't find it. I am pretty sure that I haven't seen that before. You know that I am extracting all photographs and putting them in Street order and I haven't got that one.

It is an interesting shot because it shows the building next to the London Tavern having been demolished.

Interesting picture.

Thanks Ted - referring back to my posting last August this is exactly what I said. Ladder in Purfleet Street - your photo confirms all the buildings from corner to bridge.
