Yes I do remember the Sat morning test of the siren,I also remember that the officer in charge of the part time members(now called Retained) used to tell all his crew"dont forget its only a test on Sat at 9am so if you turn up you dont get paid!" if we were on duty we used to wait on the forcourt, and you could be sure Mr Krill(the O I C) would be the one who turned up!!!!.

No sorry mate, dont remember her,but I think i heard her name being mentioned, I joined in 1960 so could have been before my time. The control girls then were Florrie Thurston, May Large, Marjorie Misson,Brenda Rendel, and I am not sure when some of the others came, probably when they went froma 60hour week to a 56 hour week.

Violet was a rather large lady so I am sure if you had seen her you would remember :)
She worked with my sister in the old Boots the chemists in the High street. They were
librarians there when Boots had a Library.

I do not know the year when your mother-in-law was there but my sister was there
up till 1955 I think. I think a lady called Mrs Cross was the head honcho at the time.

Hello lost bird, I joined the Gayton road station in mid august 1960 and there was no one of that name there then, I do have all Flo`s photos etc so I will have a look see if your lass is mentioned in her stuff.do you have a rough date she may have been there? I am also in touch with a chap who was there before my start date I will give him a ring if you like.

Seeing the photos of the 1907 fire practice at Tuesday Mkt Place jerked a few memory cells. It reminded me of many years ago seeing a very similar practice on the roof of what until a few years ago was Barclays on the T M P. This would have been about the mid 1950's as I remember being about 8 years old.
Anyone else remember it or have any photos?

My Great Grandfather could be in the 1905 photo. His name was Frederick Goldsmith and possibly sixth from the right.

It looks as if nearly four months later I had purchased another 35mm b&w cassette as I went back on 24/5/1981.
Two more of the outside of the Fire Station and three of the inside.

Still on 24/5/1981 KLCB Offices, what a lovely sunny day!! Don't seem to get many of them these days.
If you look to the left of the last picture of the Fire Station, in my previous posting, you can just make out a set of gates in the distance, these are they.
Both also taken on 24/5/1981.
