The Sunset Room , was previously known at the Casino. At the time when RAF Sculthorpe was the largest US Air Force base in Europe about 5,000 US personnel and their families were living in Hunstanton and the young males met at the Casino, it was an American place and also had a bit of a reputation for getting a bit restless on some nights, when the USAF left the time was right to change the name and forget about the bad reputation.
As for the Torinos have heard mention of them, dont recall ever seeing them live and never saw them in the Kit Kat upstairs or down. THe Offbeats with Danny Ford were always upstairs apart from a 2 week slot about August 1962 when Danny Kings and the Black Shadows stood in whilst the Offbeats had a holiday, strangely enough I dont think they ever did that again, they never missed a Sunday night when I was there even in that hard winter of 1962/3.

We are off to Pattaya and Mae Pim for the next week so leaving early tomorrow, 0600 hopefully for the 360km drive down to Pattaya. Its best described as the Las Vegas of Thailand if you have not been, lots of noise and flashing lights, lots of bars and many with their own live band, we will staying at the LK Metropole in Soi Diana and one of the bars just down the road is the Hear Beat Bar, it has its own band well it did before the virous put the kybosh on things so it will interesting to see if they are still playing, they start at 2100 and play until 0200 with one 30 minute break! If you want a request its 20 bts which is about 50p currently. I expect it will be very quiet there from reports all over the City so we will see. Also a Witherspoons ( check the spelling its a clone ) just round the corner but I can watch the sport whilst enjoying a Guinness or Old Speckled Hen. Its an opportunity for me to pick up ex pat delights I can get here like Bisto and proper Tea Bags from Waitrose, pasties, back bacon, etc etc. Canterbury Tales 2nd hand book shop will be another stop and again just 5 minutes from the hotel, a visit to the market is also well worth it for football shirts, designer sports shirts and shorts all with the right labels but at an affordable price, how on earth do they do it? I can say no more.
Look out for a little gem on Saturday, an ABBA track played in the style of the Shadows would have gone down well from the Offbeats I think.
