Les Judd is well and living in Brighton on the South Coast. He moved here mid sixties for a job and never went back home.

He married my mum, from Spalding who moved here with him had 3 sons.

I went on to inherit his love of music and played in a covers band for 15+ years.

He will be overjoyed when I show him all of this great info.

Your sarcastic comments are even more boring than you seem to think the posts are on here. If you can't be pleasant, don't post.!

Its good to know that Les is still with us as some would say WOW! Reliving his youth again and remembering those thrilling days of the early 60's, would be nice to see a photo of him these days and maybe some of his memories as well.

I would almost certainly gone to these even though the 2nd and 3rd dances would not have attracted a big crowd, that was the nature of dances in Hunstanton the only days you got a crowd was Saturday night at The Country Club or Sunday night at the Kit Kat or The Sunset Rooms, every other night you struggled so I supported anything else that was on offer and hoped they would not give up, dances then and then people started to call them gigs, would you believe it! Still that a good reminder of some names from the past and the cost of entry.

Some ago there was a charity CD available in the Lynn area called I think "Lets Go Back" Vol 1, which I do have, alas no cd player to play it on these days, the march of technology eh!
I never saw Vol 2 and I wonder if anyone out there has a copy and put it on the thread so I can go back once again also and see if I can remember any of those bands and tracks they used to play.

The above was the Cougers a band from Bristol who did a rock cover version of "Swan Lake" called "Saturday Night at the Duckpond." Released in February 1963 it reached number 33 in the charts. I dont remember Danny Ford and the Offbeats doing a rendition but several local groups did, the Sabres being one them.
Notice the Buns Black Bison guitars, always thought they looked every inch better than a Fender Stratocaster coupled with the Vox AC3o s well on show and you a perfect sound of the 60's

Let me take you back to those heady and fun days of the early-mid 60's and see if I can jog some memories of those Kit Kat nights. I think we were lucky to have the playing times we had then although I always thought we could have had more, the Kit Kat opened at 7pm but the music did not start until 730! Still it was better than I got used to in the 1990's and 2000's when a local concert consisted of roughly 2 1 hour sessions with a break in between, the Offbeats gave us 730 to 845 and 915 to 1030.
The 2nd half started usually just after 915 but it is what happened at about 940pm that I found unusual and interesting. The Offbeats were a rock/pop group so it was a great surprise to me that at 940sh we got the Offbeats playing "Hava Nagila" which is a Jewish folk dance! How on earth did that happen!! I am glad it did though, broadened my musical horizon and it went down a storm with everyone shouting "Hoi" at the end of each verse, well musical verse, no singing - it is an instrumental. It started off slowly and got progressively quicker with each verse and Roger Wagg putting his guitar behind his head and still managing to play it supremely well. In 1963 the Spotnicks, the Swedish Group who dressed up in space suits released a version on the Oriole label, got to number 13 in the charts, I bought it only to be disappointed that the speed remained constant throughout! Still better tan nothing so coming up take a look and listen to the Spotnicks.

The other day I found a Spotnicks version with them dressed up in their space suits and now I cannot find it, but I found something which is probably just as good and in colour with a version of Hava Nagila which is more like we used to get at the Kit Kat and from someone you might just also remember, a bloke I met in 1963 at the Sunset Rooms.
