Mike Prior

I noticed Mike's obituary in the Lynn News this week and haven't seen anything on the Forum about this. Mike was certainly a character and in recent years appears to have blotted his copybook, however over the decades he has given pleasure to many with his contribution to the Lynn music scene. I have not seen him since I left the town in 1968 but have memories of a kind and helpful guy with a talent for music.
He was an orphan from the Blitz apparently and adopted locally where he made his home. His obituary states that he wishes any donations to go to Dr Barnado's which is a sign that he never forgot his roots.
Coincidentally his obituary in the Lynn News is right next to that of my mum's and she was only talking about him a few weeks ago as he stayed at our house a few times when his flat in Portland Street was 'being used by his friends'.
I would like to hear some Mike Prior stories from people who knew him, and hope that he will not be remembered for some of the darker moments in his life.

I have known Mike all my life as we lived next door to each other till he was old enough to get out of the house that he was bought up in.
His name was Prior but that was not the name of the family that adopted him. He had a terrible childhood with that family and the times
I saw him get hit are too numerous to mention. Sometimes I thought it would have been better if he had died when the bomb hit his
parents house in London than go through what he did. Wether the stories about him were true or not I do not know...but he always
said they were not. I will be away from home on the day of his funeral so I will not be able to attend, but if I could, I would. RIP MIke.
I do not want thanks for any research I am able to help out with. I just love doing it.

I guess this is a reminder of where we all are in our lives, time marches on and some get left behind. I can well remember Mike Prior and the Escorts playing at the Kit Kat downstairs and always a good band in my opinion. I also remember seeing them at the Manor Park caravan park on Tuesday nights in the season. They started at 730pm and I think there would only be about 6 of us locals who were there then, not many of the "campers" turned up in the "camp club" until much later and we went at the interval, but, free live music why would you not be there? So they are my memories of Mike Prior and the Escorts, not in the same league as the Offbeats but so much a part of the local music scene at the time.
Whilst ever we remember and speak the names the memories live on and they will not die, non the less its a sad loss for us all, thanks for the news Splodge sad though it is.
They were good times weren't they.

Following on from the above comments, after my Mum's funeral I looked at other floral tributes at Mintlyn Crematorium and was touched to see this beautiful and apt arrangement for Mike.
