Postby Colin H » 05 May 2015, 20:14

Sorry this is a bit short notice for the May walk but hope to see lots of you there to support us and hear Paul's interesting talk and walk.

Walks and Events in 2015

Sunday 10th May - “The South Side VIPs”. Paul Richards introduces some of those buried on the south (Dobbies) side of the cemetery. This side is less visited than the north side so you’re sure to learn something new.
Meet at the gates on the south side at 2 pm. Friends of the Cemetery ask for a voluntary donation of £4 per walk please

June 21st – Dr Julian Litten . “Gruesome Ends and Bloody Murders”. Join Julian and hear about some of our residents who have met less than peaceful ends.

11th July – Open Day – members of the Friends will lead walks throughout the day.

19th July – Possible extra Summer Walk – check out our website www.hardwickroadcemetery.co.uk for future details

13th September – Heritage Day. “Mr Mayor”. Steph Hall will introduce some of the solid Victorians who were mayors of Lynn.

All walks start at 2p.m at Cross of Sacrifice on the north (B&Q) side.
Open Day is July 11th, 11 – 4. Cemetery open for walks, grave searches and tea and cakes. Come and meet the Friends and the Residents.
Heritage Day is September 13th. Hours to be confirmed as walks coincide with bus arrivals. Tea and cakes served in the cemetery entrance.

Just a quick update on this.

Thanks to everyone who came along on Saturday 11 July to our Open Day we managed to raise £300 to help us continue our work in restoring the memorials in the cemetery and promoting the history of the area.

Pleased to confirm that Dr Bond will be leading a walk in the southern part (Tesco side) of the cemetery at 2.00 p.m. on Sunday 19 July. The subject will be "E M Beloe and Early Lynn Historians". Should be a most interesting talk do come and join us.

Meet inside the cemetery gateway on the Southern side. Donations of £4 per person would be appreciated.

For the second time since August we have travelled 60miles to Hardwick cemetery to attend my Dad's grave and today was even worse than the first time because we couldn't get any where near it for over knee high thistles.
Don't the council have any respect for the dead and those that attend or try to maintain their family graves.
