There were at one time, not so long ago.. many classic cars in various state of rust... behind it... an E type for example, and even my own favourite.. a triumph herald..

time waits for no one yet, and history disappears as quickly as its made...

there are still a few places left where pumps that were active are still in situ.. and can still be seen.. even if heavily protected... its good that they are , i think.. and sad, that we have lost one more... but happy that ive seen it... :)

Slightly off topic about stolen pumps I know but the RED CAT pub had a pump
at one time. Fill up with a pint of best bitter and a gallon of 4 star :D Perhaps
a certain member can tell us if its still there?
I do not want thanks for any research I am able to help out with. I just love doing it.

I hope, incony, that I've managed to send a photo to you in a personal message. Cars still there but roof has collapsed & crushed them all.

The old cars belong to customers of Alan Giles who for some reason never collected them.
Some even go back to his fathers time.
There was also a Chriscraft boat in there and a Riley Cabriolet.
I worked there about 35 years ago and they were in a poor state then.
try everything once, if you dont like it once is enough

The boat has been stolen snake-eyes. I'm not knowledgeable about cars at all but I am told there is an early Austin Atlantic. The roof has collapsed on the cars & they have all been crushed. I'll put the photo on here, I think it is pretty much common knowledge that the cars are there. There is also a piano in a barn that is in a sorry state (the piano & the barn) & there is asbestos which no doubt someone has dumped all over the place.

Hi EWW
Regarding the old petrol pump at the Red Cat.
'New' fire regulations etc. eventually caught up
with this old popular Shell hand pump.
Landlord Jack Irwin finally sold it to a museum of some kind
c1983.
Lot or regular customers would order a pint and a gallon of petrol !!
I believe the Red Cat was one of the first to have a petrol licence.

One of my brothers was in the "Black Gang" Customs for many years and they
used to stay at the Cat when in this area. Strange lot they were. The Gov'ner
liked to have his hair cut at his favourite barber who happened to be in Mistley.
I went along for the ride with them one day and it was off to Felixstowe for
breakfast at their favourite café. Then on to Mistley for his nibs trim, Ipswich
for dinner, then the Red Cat for beer and petrol. I do not know if you were there
then pji but they stayed there regular. Tired out they were. :D

Yes EWW, well I say that I was here, depends on what year you mean.
The Irwin family have been running the Cat for 90 odd years, fourth generation now.

yes EWW I was just a lad then.
Often Jack would get me to serve a gallon or two
of petrol to a thirsty and dry customer, that was
if they could get their car near enough to pump.
Sometimesw filler cap would be on other side of
car and wretched hose wouldn't reach!!
