Lovely pics Dawn :D
I don't know anything about Gaywood Park Primary School, how many classes did it have?
I see in one photo there are 40 children and in the other 44, seem rather large classes, I wonder if that was because it was just after the war or are primary classes usually that big?

GAYWOOD PRIMARY SCHOOL

Postby littleoldboy » 07 Nov 2008, 21:44

Gaywood Primary school had both Infants and Primary, but when I started we were real post WW2 bulge year. My infant time was at St Faith's Church Rooms. When I got to primary age (1954) we went to Rosebury Avenue I think we had two classes of 30+ for each year.
I remember the 3 main classrooms were divided by folding partitions that opened up to make a big hall for assembly.
I know its no longer a school now, maybe a senior moment, but did I ask what the buildings are used for now?

I think part of the school is now used as some sort of support centre LoB.
The net says that there is still an infants school on the site.

Thanks again for doing the pictures for me Val. Thanks for all the replies. Does anyone recognise anyone? Anyone know who the teacher is in the 1946 picture is? My mind failed me a long time ago. lol
I believe there were 3 classes with partion. School does still stand and I'm not sure what it used for anymore. I know they tried to demolish it and the people got a petition not to.
This is a wonderful way to share and bring back memories of the good ole days. Keep them coming. Dawn

My see the pictures Val put in for me are correct, sorry the top picture is 1946 and the bottom is 1947 therefore, Mrs. Oliver is in the 1947 picture. They did have large classes when I went there. Anybody out there remember back to these times?
