Postby EWW » 02 Mar 2006, 10:23

I POSTED THIS PIC SOME TIME AGO, AND THOUGHT IT WAS
ST NICHOLAS SCHOOL PILOT STREET.I HAVE SINCE FOUND
OUT THAT IT IS ST MARYS CATHOLIC SCHOOL. THE PRIEST
IS CANNON STOKES, AND THE FAMILY ARE NOT SURE, BUT
THINK NO 13 IS MY ELDEST SISTER BRENDA. YOU MAYBE
INTERESTED IN THIS ONE THABER.

You could be right about the date,O.G. but one of the yardsticks I use is that nobody in the pic are wearing glasses at all, the NHS came into being in 1948 and everybody and his uncle had them after that date wether you needed them or not, also you can just see the back of a car in the street that looks 20's 30's, but I will keep digging.EWW.

EWW, nice bit of info about the NHS specs, so it's probably pre 1948. 8)

If you look at any group pic pre 48, it is rare to see people in specs, after that date they had the little round John Lennon type, and a set of false teeth that made them all look like the BEE GEE'S when they smiled.

hi all i am new to this . i have looked at this photo and recognised the girl in the centreback row to be my nan . i took the photo to show my nan yesterday and she has confirmed that it is her. she dates this picture to have been taken about 1931 as she would have been about 12/13

Hello jayline and welcome to the forum. Nice that you recognised your nan on the pic.
Will you ask her if she can remember my sister Brenda Wright as was. She is in the
pic but looks to be a bit younger than 13. She is seated right hand side of priest. :smt072

......................and can your Nan add any more names to the faces?

The trouble with these old pictures of school-children, is that often we don't know who they all are!

Any help would be great!

Thanks.

This pic has been reposted in the St Mary's School thread at the bottom of this page.
14 of the children have been named, as Teddy says, can your nan name herself and
any of the others please.

This pic of St Mary's was taken in 1947.Back row third from right is Josephine Sizeland who sadly died at the age of 15,however we can't name anyone else.

I think the boy sitting 3rd from the right is Laurence Moult and the boy behind
him is his elder brother Philip, if it is Laurence is still about in the town. Sadly I
think Phil Died. Will check with my sisters who were at St Mary's at that time.
